This one started with the mesa. I painted that rust-and-lavender wall of rock rising on the horizon first, and let the rest of the desert grow out from there — the scrubby juniper, the sagebrush catching a little wind, the cholla tucked in among the stones. It's not a single place I could point to on a map, but a Southwest landscape stitched together from the high desert country I keep coming back to in my head: big sky, soft clouds, that particular pink-orange cast the ground takes on in afternoon light.
Painted in gouache on Strathmore Watercolor 400 Series cold press paper, 12 x 6 inches. Signed by the artist. Unframed.
Ships flat and well-protected. Message me with any questions about the piece.
