I love this hour in the desert, when the light goes soft and strange all at once. The sun's already dropped behind the ridge, the sky is doing that slow fade from rose to violet, and for a few minutes every mountain and shrub turns a color it isn't during the day — the peaks go lavender and teal, the hillsides deep plum and gold. It's not a real place, just that particular kind of evening I keep chasing in paint: sagebrush and juniper dotting the slopes, cacti holding the foreground, and that last band of pink light lingering along the horizon like a blessing before the dark comes in.
